![]() ![]() Thus playing Mafia from a CD installation is dependent upon removing a very specific Windows Update that disabled SafeDisc support. Setting aside driver issues, compatibility mode and the like, many installation disks from this era use obsolete copy protection software. I could easily have picked up a copy of Mafia on physical media but installing and running the game from such a source is often problematic. One of the major selling points of GOG as a game provider is the way they retrofit old titles to run on current operating systems. So I purchased the game from Good Old Games and installed it via their Galaxy gaming client and installer. I was aware that the original released back in 2002, had a good reputation for its story driven gameplay and that it is still considered both challenging and creative. I have only played the latter two iterations of the game, namely Mafia II released 2010 and Mafia III released 2016. I recently bought Mafia which is the first instalment of a franchise currently owned by 2K Games. Therefore you will often find that there are older titles that still have merit and something to offer. But when I start the Tutorial or a New Game, the terrain is completely black as though it's just disappeared. That's okay, I can see where the buttons are. Now start DO and (if you had my problem) you should at least be able to get to the menu. (Assuming you don't want DirectX5)Ĥ) Click the checkbox for Force MMX Render.Ä¥) Click OK and everything to exit. This appears to be a sort of reg editing thing for the game which alters the options without you going into the game.Ä¢) Click no. I got past the intro freezing/black screen thing by doing this: (Not sure if it'll work for everyone, but might be useful, I don't think I saw this on this thread)Ä¡) Go to Program Files, Dark Omen and start the Hardware Troubleshooter. I played DO years ago, loved it, and of course now I want to play it again I find that XP is less than helpful in this area. Windows Registry Editor Version - I joined just so I could post on this thread. ![]() Windows Registry Editor Version Jasede (and everyone else), ![]()
